Every woman’s health journey is different. Columbia Asia Hospitals offers Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) services that are built with one goal, to support women through all phases of life. Our services encompasses both preventive and therapeutic care, with a strong focus on reproductive health, pregnancy, and the long-term well-being of the female body.

Our obstetrics services cover all aspects of maternity care, from prenatal care to postpartum care. Expectant mothers receive comprehensive monitoring, antenatal screening, and guidance throughout pregnancy, ensuring a safe and supportive experience. Our obstetricians are trained to manage both normal and high-risk pregnancies, and are well-prepared to handle emergency situations with professionalism and compassion.

In the field of gynaecology, Columbia Asia Hospitals provide diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions affecting the pelvic organs, reproductive system, and hormonal health. Services include routine screenings such as the pap smear, which plays a vital role in early detection of cervical cancer, as well as evaluation and management of menstrual disorders, fibroids, and other gynaecological concerns.

With access to advanced diagnostic tools and minimally invasive procedures, many reproductive health conditions can now be treated effectively without major surgery. Our gynaecologists work with precision and care, utilising the latest techniques to ensure patient safety, faster recovery, and better outcomes.

Our O&G specialists also support broader women’s health needs, including family planning, pre-pregnancy care, menopause management, and wellness screening programmes. By working closely with experts across other medical disciplines, we ensure a holistic approach that prioritises long-term well-being.

Find Answers To Your Questions

Don’t have any questions? Feel free to schedule an appointment with our team.

When should I have my first antenatal visit?

If you think you are pregnant, it is recommended to schedule your first antenatal visit around 6-8 weeks of pregnancy, or earlier if you have pain, bleeding, a history of miscarriage, or other health problems.

How often will I need check‑ups during pregnancy?

In a normal pregnancy, visits are usually every 4 weeks in early pregnancy, then every 2 weeks in the third trimester (week 29-40, in the last 3 months of pregnancy), and weekly near your due date; if you have a high‑risk pregnancy, your obstetrician may arrange more frequent monitoring.

What is considered a high‑risk pregnancy?

A pregnancy may be considered high‑risk if the mother has conditions such as high blood pressure, pre‑eclampsia, diabetes, multiple pregnancy (twins or more), previous preterm birth or caesarean section, or other medical or obstetric complications that require closer follow‑up.

What pain relief options are available during labour and delivery?

Depending on your health and birth plan, options may include breathing and relaxation techniques, intravenous medication, epidural or spinal analgesia, and other methods; your obstetric team will discuss benefits, risks and the most suitable choice for you.

What symptoms should I see a gynaecologist for?

You should book a gynaecology visit if you have irregular or heavy bleeding, severe period pain, pelvic pain, unusual vaginal discharge, post‑menopausal bleeding, breast changes, or concerns about fertility, contraception or menopause.

How often should I have a Pap smear and cervical screening?

Regular screening is important for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer. Most guidelines recommend starting cervical screening around age 21 or within a few years of becoming sexually active.

  • For women aged 21 to 29, a Pap smear is usually recommended every 3 years.
  • For women aged 30 to 65, screening options include:
    • Pap smear every 3 years, or
    • Pap smear combined with HPV testing every 5 years (if available).
  • Screening may stop after age 65 if previous tests have been normal, but this depends on individual risk factors and doctor’s advice.

Our doctors will advise you on the best screening schedule based on yourage, test availability, previous results and Ministry of Health guidelines.

Do you offer minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery?

Yes, many conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, ectopic pregnancy and some pelvic floor problems can be treated with laparoscopic or vaginal surgery, which usually means smaller incisions, less pain and faster recovery compared with open surgery.

What services are available for family planning and contraception?

The department provides counselling on birth control options and offers methods such as oral contraceptives, intrauterine devices (IUDs), Implanon implants, and permanent methods like sterilisation when appropriate.

Can I receive care for perimenopause and menopause at the O&G clinic?

Yes, specialists can help manage symptoms such as hot flushes, mood changes, sleep problems, irregular bleeding and vaginal dryness, and will discuss lifestyle measures, hormone therapy and other treatments tailored to your health profile and preferences.

Do you have antenatal classes for parents?

Yes, we do. Antenatal classes can help you prepare for your baby’s birth and give you confidence as well as vital information about pregnancy and childbirth. At Columbia Asia, we organize antenatal classes frequently to provide much needed guidance for expecting parents on their pregnancy journey.

Follow our Facebook Event page to know about our upcoming antenatal classes.
